Time for Reflection

Time for Reflection

I was very fortunate to have a two-week staycation this month. This break was much needed from the pace of 2018. As December approached, I looked forward to the down time and tried to organize my unrestricted 14 days. I planned to spend quality time with family and friends, manage a few household efforts, incorporate more self-care, organize a few things for AutismColors a set goals for 2019. Seems reasonable and not overwhelming, however, with the exception of quality time, many of my to-dos were replaced with moments of introspection and peace. The fluidity in my day connected me with many moments of deep-belly laughs shared with long-time friends, family and by myself.

I had the opportunity to glide throughout the day without any external or self-imposed pressure. At the root, my key accomplishment for 2018, guided by the fluidity of the 14 days, is successful not for the sake of checking a box, but for reinforcing the foundation of my new blended family and for me as an individual.

We were present.  From a place of honesty and love, we reflected on the highs and lows of the year and we rested in the security of our unwavering love and devotion to our family. This connection is what strengthens the fibers of our tightly-woven family and village. And, this is the peaceful state we reached in order to think through our goals and plans for 2019- a true accomplishment.

We have a unique perspective of the world, viewed through cultural and neurodiversity lenses.  AutismColors aims to increase understanding and acceptance. In my reflection, I came to realize that this is a shared objective that extends not only through AutismColors, but in my own life.

We welcome the New Year tonight! My hope for all is that there are more highs than lows in 2019. And, when the pace of life picks up, we manage moments more easily, because we gift ourselves fluidity time. We give ourselves and others space for peace, to dig deep and rely on intuition for direction.

Happy New Year, Family!
